Sam Morris

1900 - 1988

"The tomb of Christ is famous because of what it DOES NOT CONTAIN."

Sam Morris was for many, many years best known as "J. Barleycorn's No. 1 Enemy." He was proclaimed by the liquor industry as "the most valuable man to have entered the service of the drys in several generation." For years he successfully fought liquor on the strongest stations in America and Mexico on his "Voice of Temperance" radio broadcast.

"HOWDY, NEIGHBOR!" Morris' listeners packed out great halls to hear his friendly greeting. One well-known writer described the mighty response that followed it: "I have been watching crowds closely all my life, but I never saw anything like this before. I have seen admiration, respect and veneration in the faces of people as they listened to Bryan or Billy Sunday. These people, packed tightly together in great auditoriums, had all that--but much more. It was massed, concerted, personal friendship and love...."

Dr. Morris was not only a great temperance speaker; he was also a successful pastor in Weatherford and Stamford, Texas, before being offered time for his temperance talks on the world's most powerful radio station XERA, located across the border in old Mexico.

Dr. Morris also conducted great revival campaigns in some of America's largest churches.

No one can estimate the influence Morris had on the lives of individuals.

His 16 publications were very popular. Among them were: Blessed Assurance, Mother's Bible, Voice of Temperance Scrapbooks, The Booze Buster, and Rats in the Brewery Vats.

He taught Bible in Hardin-Simmons University; got his M.A. degree from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.
