Everyday with Jesus

- Dr. Shelton Smith It is #421 in our Heart-Warming Songs and Hymns. “Every Day with Jesus” (Robert C. Loveless) is a simple chorus, but it resonates deep within me every time I sing it. It tells me that “Every day with Jesus is sweeter than the day before, every day with Jesus, I love Him more and more.”

Think about it!

The fact that I am saved, and therefore a member of the family of God, entitles me to an “every day” relationship with the Lord.

1. It Is Providential!

“Jesus saves and keeps me….” All that we have we owe to the Lord. He has arranged salvation for us and made it simple enough for anyone to receive (John 1:12).

2. It Is Personal!

You can’t claim to be a Christian because your grandparents did. Every one of us is accountable for ourselves (Rom. 14:12). No one else can decide for you; you must decide for yourself.

3. It Is Permanent!

“Every day” it is our privilege as a child of God to walk with the Saviour. He is the one who “keeps me” as I live out my life (II Tim. 1:12).

4. It Is Progressive!

“…I love Him more and more.” Growth in grace (II Pet. 3:18) will take us closer and closer to Him. As the days turn into years, the love for the Saviour will just get stronger.

5. It Is Purifying!

“…sweeter than the day before.” Yes, it will fill your soul with the good, godly sustenance that satisfies and, in doing so, diminishes your desire for the world’s husks.

6. It Is Positional!

When you commit to “every day with Jesus,” that will impact everything about you. Your philosophy, principles, practices, personality, etc.—everything about you will be positioned to the right and away from the wrong.

7. It Is Prospective!

“…He’s the one I’m waiting for.” Jesus said, “I will come again” (John 14:3), and we are anticipating that with joy and delight.

Yes, it is a simple chorus, but it speaks to me. You may not be a soloist, but how about if you and I get tuned up and sing a duet. “Every Day with Jesus” is one I’m confident we can do. Amen!
